Austin Surprise Proposal Photography
Avéline Weddings photographs and films surprise proposals across Austin, TX, including Round Rock, Georgetown, Dripping Springs and the Hill Country. You plan the moment; we hide nearby, catch the question and the reaction as it happens, then take portraits of the two of you right after, while you are still glowing.
Why hire a proposal photographer?
The proposal lasts about thirty seconds, and the one person who would normally take the photo is the one down on one knee. A friend with a phone usually gets the back of a head, or gives the surprise away. A hidden photographer gets the walk up, the question, the reaction and the ring, from the right angle and in the right light, and nobody has to tell anyone to stand somewhere.
How a surprise proposal shoot works
- Pick the spot. Tell us where you are thinking of; we help you choose the exact place to stand and the time for the best light.
- Send us a photo of you both and what you plan to wear, so we know who to watch for.
- Share your live location on the day. We arrive early, find our hiding place and watch you walk in.
- Ask. We capture it all, then come out for portraits of the two of you and the ring.
Best places to propose in Austin
- Mount BonnellThe classic Austin proposal: 102 steps up to a view over Lake Austin and the hills.
- Pennybacker Bridge overlook (Loop 360)The rust-red bridge and the river from the rocks on the north side, best at golden hour.
- Zilker Botanical Garden (Taniguchi Japanese Garden)Stone paths, ponds and little bridges in the middle of the city.
- Laguna GloriaA 1916 villa and sculpture garden on Lake Austin; quiet and elegant.
- Lady Bird Lake boardwalkThe water with the skyline behind it; easy to stage a 'walk' that ends at the spot.
- Lou Neff PointThe downtown view from the trail at Zilker, a few steps from parking.
- The Driskill HotelA historic downtown hotel for an indoor proposal and a dinner reservation after.
- Hamilton Pool PreserveA collapsed grotto with a waterfall, outside the city (reservations required).
What should I wear for the proposal?
Something you feel good in that matches the place: a button-down or a light jacket and a dress or nice top work almost everywhere. Solid colors photograph better than busy prints. If your partner does not know, find a reason for a nicer evening out, like a dinner reservation, so dressing up does not give it away.
